The Snow Roads

The Snow Roads is a south-north driving route from Blairgowrie to Grantown-on-Spey via Glenshee, Braemar and Tomintoul.

This is a great way to experience the eastern side of the Cairngorms National Park and take in a section of Royal Deeside. For those wanting to take their time over their journey to the north of Scotland, this makes a wonderful alternative to dashing up the main A9.

For those with plenty of time and a desire to see a wide selection of Scotland’s countryside, a combination of part of the Heart 200 route (Stirling to Perth to Blairgowrie, for example), followed by the Snow Roads route, then a tour of the north (North Coast 500, for example), then down the A9 to Bruar and then follow the Heart 200 route back to Stirling along the Highland North and Wooded Western Edge.

There are endless possibilities, and you can have fun making up your own itineraries, so it’s worth being aware of the Snow Roads if you want to get off the beaten track as you make your way further north into the highlands of Scotland.
