Glencoe

Scotland’s rugged west coast mountains at their stunning best, a trip to Glencoe is a great day out. Learn about the glen, it’s geology and the 1692 massacre at the National Trust for Scotland Visitor Centre, and maybe even get your boots on and go for a walk. However, be warned, the mountain paths around Glencoe are particularly rugged, so do be realistic in terms of what experience you have and what you choose to attempt.

For the experienced mountaineer, Glencoe is one of the absolute best mountain areas in Scotland, a real Mecca, but even for the inexperienced walker it is possible to get stunning views from close to the road, looking up at Buachaille Etive Mor, the Aonach Eagach Ridge and the Three Sisters.

For a range of summer activities such as mountain biking and tubing, and skiing in winter, the Glencoe Mountain Resort is a great place to visit, whether you’re looking for young kids’ adventure or big kids’ (adults) adventure.

The distance from Lix Toll (near Killin) on the Heart 200 route to the Glencoe Mountain Resort is 35 miles.
